What it’s like inside a Fashion Designers home

It’s not everyday you get to take a peek inside the home of a world famous Fashion Designer, so when I stumbled upon these pictures of Colette Dinnigan’s home in Paddington I couldn’t resist. The fashion icon’s home will be going up for sale very soon and – as all things wonderful happen when property goes on the market – we get a sneak peak at some of the home’s best features.

This particular home is a gorgeous sandstone building dating back to the 1880’s and Colette Dinnigan’s has styled her home in an absolutely stunning way, inside and out. From the gorgeous, marble kitchen to the stunning bathroom and bedrooms alike, the most has been made out of this home’s natural beauty – enhancing the original architecture and sandstone. Mostly light and neutral furnishings allow the sandstone detail to take centre stage as does paired back styling which keeps the spaces from looking overly busy. So, grab a cup of tea and let yourself escape the daily grind for a minute – this is kind of home that dreams are made of…

The Block Room Reveals – Terraces (week 10)

And so the apartments are complete – with the final whistle from Scotty Cam, all rooms have now been revealed inside AND out. It was an emotional week for all but they have reached the light at the end of the tunnel and can all say they have completed The Block! Terraces are one of the most exciting rooms for delivery as they are so different from any other space inside. Being the centre point for most of the apartments, these terraces had to be pretty special and provide a beautiful outlook for various rooms of each apartment, and it was so great to see that all of them did just that…

Josh & Charlotte: For their last reveal, Josh and Charlotte pulled together a very functional and clever terrace. I really loved their playful vertical garden and how it pays a little reference to the all time favourite childhood game – Tetris. The suspended light fittings also give the space a fun element while still keeping in style with the simplicity of their apartment. Finally, and probably their smartest move was keeping all the furniture on wheels, giving the space a lot of flexibility for entertaining or relaxing. Being a small outdoor area, they really have made the most of this space and there really isn’t much to fault! I hope Josh & Charlotte are really proud of the apartment they’ve created and that it pays off for them come auction day.

Tim & Anastasia: From budget woes to walking off the show, it’s a miracle that Tim & Anastasia were able to finish this space. Having completed it on a shoe-string budget, they’ve done an exceptionally good job. The mains bones of this terrace are really lovely, from the timber framing through to the vertical garden and bamboo screening. They have created a lush oasis, but from that point onwards I had to agree with the judges that they space was a little over crowded. Some careful editing of the dining setting (perhaps a smaller 4-seater), removal of the hanging chair and reducing the collection of pot plants will go a long way to help create the illusion of more space.

Ayden & Jess: As always, Jess & Ayden finished the week off with big smiles and a great space. Utilising their vouchers and using the concrete wall cladding, they produced and bright and airy outdoor space that can double up as a summer lounge room. With excellent privacy, this space will be perfect for hot summer days and balmy nights. Their Vertical garden is lush and the reclaimed MCG gate is a great, quirky edition that fits beautifully with their apartment. I really liked the way this spaced was styled and their pendant lights are just the right finishing touch (and like grown up disco balls in all the right ways).

Darren & Deanne: Finishing off with the final reveal of the season was really quite bitter/sweet. Darren and Deanne produced a space that is absolutely stunning, but I’m a little sad that this will be there last. I’ve really enjoyed watching these apartments come together, especially Darren & Deanne’s – here’s hoping that this wont be the last we see of her beautiful style. But back to their garden/terrace/oasis/heaven – with a mixture of old and new, grass to play on, a lush jungle and a gorgeous sitting area, this terrace has it all and really is the crowning jewel of their apartment. It’s like Neale said, this completed their apartment and made the whole unit make sense. Rightly so, they took home the winning prize and finished their two seasons of the Block with a perfect score of 30/30. Here’s hoping they really do finish on a high with a very successful auction result!

Can you believe it’s already Friday again? After the week of weather we’ve had, the first half almost felt like it rolled into one day and here we are as quick as anything on the cusp of the weekend again! Not that I’m complaining – this weekend is going to be a pretty nice one with my Mum coming to stay, I’m really looking forward to some quality time with her and perhaps a little mother-daughter shopping! If you’re in Sydney I hope you have kept safe this week and have something lovely planned for the weekend! With all that being said, here are a few things that inspired me throughout this stormyweek….

1. ANZAC Biscuits – This time of year always calls for them and this year especially as we remember 100 years since the landing at Gallipoli in 1915 by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

2. Poppy Flowers – along the same lines, this iconic red flower is another beautiful way we remember the soldiers who fought for us in World War 1.

Style Stakes: Sheepskin Rugs

If there is one thing I’ve learnt about rugging up for the cooler months, it’s the more texture the better. While spring and summer are all about colour, autumn & winter are all about layers. So it’s no surprise that over the past few months I’ve been noticing a gradual surge in sheepskin (or lambskin) rugs being used a decorator items  in American and European homes during their cooler months. Being so soft and fluffy they are an excellent accent for winter to create that warm, cosy feeling – while still adding some serious style. Below are a few ways you can uses these deliciously, warm decorator items that will make will  have you all snuggled up for the rest of autumn and winter…

The Block Room Reveals – Stairs, study’s and a whole lot more (Week 9)

Oh the Calamity! Last night’s episode of reveals was almost a none event and if it weren’t for Jess & Ayden showing how it’s done, we would have been getting a walk through of four building-sites. Each couple faced a series of challenges this week and the monster of the block came out the clear winner, meaning sadly three of the four couples delivered incomplete rooms. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this on the block before but even still there is much to be said about what has been achieved…

Josh & Charlotte – While the judges were slightly surprised when they walked into Josh & Charlottes space, I don’t think they knew what was truly coming with the following apartments. Josh & Charlotte put in a great effort to finish their 3 story staircase this week, and aside from some unfinished painting, they did a pretty incredible job. Keeping with their simplistic style the study and staircase is light, bright, clean and simple. I agreed with the judges that it is a shame they chose to close in their staircase, as with such an opportunity to create a staircase from scratch, something really spectacular could have been achieved. However in saying that, what they have executed is still beautiful. The consistency of gorgeous pale timbers, plantation shutters and simple colour schemes throughout their apartment is all tied together with the staircase and study being the final piece of their Block puzzle.

Tim & Anastasia – Of all the couples, Tim & Anastasia were the stand-outs for not completing any of their spaces and also not seeming to care. With only the plaster board complete and some carpet down in two rooms – I really would like to know what they were doing all week. Regardless of the fact that the stairs proved to be more challenging than expected, it’s no excuse for not having any furniture in their theatre room and study area. Even if these spaces weren’t styled, there is nothing to show us what the vision is for the space is or how the room will come together.  It’s really a shame with these two spaces as Tim & Anastasia had a huge opportunity here but it looks like it’s really been wasted. Knowing they could have made the rooms into another bedroom or something other than another TV room, also highlighted the point on how they had missed the mark.

The same goes for their staircase, with only some timber cladding on the ceiling and a glass balustrade, I think there was just as much disappointment on screen as there was off. The timber ceiling in this light brings really closes the staircase in and makes the ceiling feel lower, but once the space is finished this could be a different story.

Jess & Ayden – Taking home the winners prize again, Jess and Ayden completed their spaces in a seriously chic way. From a stunning open staircase to a gorgeous study and the perfect sitting area on the top floor, each spaced flowed beautifully through to the next and was executed to the highest standard. My mouth dropped when I saw the architectural detail of their open staircase, complete gorgeous pine-cone like pendants, that are like none I’ve ever seen before. The space is gorgeous and unique and has the little quirky charm that has become signature to Jess & Ayden

Their simple study area which is minimally furnished and utilises built-in furniture creates a space that appears to be much larger than it actually is. Lots of natural filtered light, (thanks to the plantation shutters) also help in keeping this area lights and airy. It’s clean, simple and fits in beautifully with the surrounding areas.

Finally their upstairs sitting area  – complete with bar fridge and coffee machine – is the perfect addition to the top level, creating a master retreat well worth the hike up three levels of stairs. Once again, gorgeous built-in furniture, light timbers and an abundance of natural light make this space feel bigger than it really is. It’s shame this was the last week for interior spaces as I feel like jess & Ayden and finally “got it” in terms of styling and creating luxurious spaces for this type of apartment!

Darren & Deanne – We’re the second couple to not finishes any spaces for the reveal this week, but there is much to be said about how Deanne still set everything up to give the impression of what is to come. With paint on the walls and the selected tile displayed we can see that this is going to turn out to be a spectacular entry to their apartment. The stairs themselves didn’t have any finishes so we can’t comment on that today, but we can see what surrounds the staircase will be beautiful, while leading up the stairs there will be a series of oversized artworks creating a gorgeous gallery inspired space.

For their study, we are also only given a hint of what is to come. The simple desk area facing out creates an open space to work at where natural light can be enjoyed. Positioning the desk this way mean it looks out to the kitchen and living area which (depending on what kind of worker you are) could be perfect or a real hindrance – contrary to the judges, I really like it. Built in storage behind the desk will be the final puzzle piece for this area, finishing it off beautifully with the black & white artwork.

BONUS! thanks to the block being a few weeks a head of what we get to view on the TV and the perks of social media, Darren & Deanne have shared their finished staircase through instagram – and as expected, it’s simply gorgeous. Check out their feed for a few more ‘grams of the finished space…
