Interior Design Trends 2014 – Mixing Metals

Once upon a time I was told that gold and silver shouldn’t be seen together. Once upon a time, I was also told that going to a solarium was a safe alternative to the sun. And like sun beds, we should definitely reconsider some of the design advise that was given to us many moons ago.

Mixing metals is one trend that can be as subtle or as bold as you like and either way it can work an absolute charm at giving your room that finishing touch. The addition of mixed metals can be added into a variety styles such as industrial, vintage, classic, glamour or even rustic rooms.

There are a couple of simple tricks to keep in mind when mixing metals in order to keep you look sophisticated. Firstly, work with your colour scheme by choosing a selection of metals that will enhance your room, rather than dominate it. Likewise, keeping the mix in balance is equally as important. If you room is filled with chrome plated furniture and you add one brass vase, it will probably look a little out of place.

To give you some inspiration and ideas, take a look at the images below (note: the metal details) to see some seriously skillful mixologists!
